Akufo-Addo must accept ‘most corrupt president’ tag - Inusah Fuseini

Former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Alhaji Innusah Fuseini believes President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo truly deserves the most corrupt President’ tag on him.

The Tamale Central lawmaker described the approach adopted by President Nana Akufo-Addo in fighting corruption is laughable for which reason his critics are right in describing him as such.

According to him, Akufo-Addo’s should be blamed for the most corrupt Ghanaian President tag that hangs around his because of how he has dealt with corruption scandals under his watch.

The lawmaker spoke on Accra-based Kingdom FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

“He must accept full responsibility for the unenviable accolade as the most corrupt President in Ghana’s history, which hangs around his neck and find out why it is so.”

He said “President Akufo-Addo is not protecting the public funds because a report from the Auditor-General indicates there are some public officials who are engaged in corruption but they have not been sanctioned and that means he is not protecting the public purse like he promised to”.

Ghana has been unimpressive in the 2019 Corruption Perception Index(CPI) rankings released last week. Ghana maintained its 2018 score of 41 points but slipped from 78th in 2018 to 80th out of the 180 countries and territories under consideration.

“Government must take a critical look at elements that promote sector corruption including patronage, clientelism, nepotism and suspiciously close ties between politics and business,” a statement on the 2019 CPI rankings by the Ghana Integrity Initiative(GII) recommended.

GII also advised government to discourage vote buying by punishing perpetrators ; avoid abuse of incumbency among others.

Opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has accused the Akufo-Addo administration of being the most nepotistic government in the history of the country, accusing the President of having appointed dozens of his family relatives into government.

But the government hit back denying that some of the persons had any family ties with the President but arguing that those with ties to the President are well qualified for the positions they occupy.
