An elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Sulemana Yirimia, has dismissed claims by certain persons in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that flagbearer of the party is behind the suspension of the party’s chairman, Paul Afoko.
Alhaji Yirimia speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme Monday said, such rumours are false and wicked propaganda not just against Nana Addo but himself and another petitioner, Alhaji Muhammed Amidu Amadu.
“I am older than Akufo-Addo…at the time I was in the NPP, Nana Addo was in school…what my conscience tells me is what I am doing…,” he said.
The flagbearer has been at the receiving end of several accusations with his accusers claiming that he engineered the suspension of the NPP chair. The reason, his accusers say, is because the twice defeated flagbearer claimed he could not work with him.
It has also been argued that the suspended chairman belongs to the Alan Kyeremanten faction of the party and hence Nana Addo seeks to have his cronies surround him.
But these claims, Alhaji Yirimia said, are unfounded adding that he petitioned NEC after Paul Afoko failed to meet them after several meetings.
Alhaji Yirimia further added that it was not true that Northerners in the party were being pitched against ‘our brother’ just to get rid of him.
“Let’s get rid of this tribal propaganda…I am doing this for posterity and not trying to malign my own bother…what Afoko is doing is detrimental to the success of the NPP…,” he added.
