The Member of Parliament (MP) for Lawra/Nandom and Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Ambrose Dery is confident of retaining his seat in parliament judging from his contributions to the people of his constituency especially in the areas of education, health and social interventions.
In an exclusive interview, Hon. Dery, who was highly tipped to partner Nana Akuffo Addo, flag-bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 elections, said among others that, leadership is a call to serve the people and not to lord it over them.
According to him, some politicians have made themselves unapproachable which should not be the case stressing, “the MP owes it a duty to always interact with his people by making himself available to them at all times without giving unnecessary excuses”.
Hon. Ambrose Dery, a devout Catholic read portions of the Bible especially the Gospel according to Mark (Mark 10:43-45) to buttress his point and explained how Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples and asked them to go into the world and wash the feet of others.
He catalogued some of the major projects he has undertaken in the Lawra/Nandom Constituency since his election into the high office of Parliament in 2008 to include; sponsorship package for over 200 students and construction of 6 units’ classroom blocks across the constituency without discrimination. He also donated twenty four (24) computers to six secondary schools in the constituency at the cost of GHC 15,000.00
Realizing that the health of the people is paramount, he donated two ambulances to the Lawra and Nandom hospitals and constructed health centres in the all the remote areas of his constituency.
On social interventions, Hon. Dery donated GHC 25,000 to women groups in his area to enable them undertake various economic activities. He also constructed 20 boreholes for his people.
Hon. Ambrose Dery, often referred to as a development oriented person by the people of the Upper West Region, when he was the Regional Minister during the Kufour administration also donated 100 roofing sheets, 100 sewing machines to his constituents who were affected by flood.
He said if he is able to do this while in opposition, then he can do better if Ghanaians vote the NPP back to power and called on all his constituents to give Nana Addo the mantle of leadership to serve them better.
