Two district level election aspirants for the Kasadjan Electoral Area in the Tema West Municipality have justified their candidature as the best persons to champion development in the area.

Mr Eric Kwame Boakye, is contesting for the first time and the incumbent Madam Mary Enoo, is on the ballot paper for the fourth time.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Mr Boakye said the community was in a deplorable state, claiming that developmental projects were lacking in the area.

He indicated that whenever it rained the gutters in the area overflowed into homes due to their swallow and narrow state, saying the incumbent had failed to lobby the Assembly to expand such drains to accomodate flash floods.

He alleged that there was bad blood between the incumbent and the local Municipal Chief Executive resulting in the incumbent's inability to lobby for crucial projects such as storm drains.

According to him, when elected as the assembly member, he would embark on developmental projects, organize town hall meetings to engage residents on their needs.

Mr Boakye further stated that he would lobby the Assembly to provide scholarship for brilliant but needy students in the area in addition to establishing a welfare fund for the aged and Persons living with Disability .

Madam Enoo, on her part, said she was seeking re-election to continue her good works, saying people who did not know what the work of an assembly member was, criticized her for nothing.

She added that “assembly members are the mouth piece of the people, they report all problems in the area to the assembly”.

She indicated that she lobbied the Assembly and the Member of Parliament to start the construction of a three classroom block for the TMA Day Care Centre.

She said even though it was not her responsibility to embarked on developmental projects, she had managed to get the authorities to pave the inner roads of the community adding that the aged and widows in the area were also under her care.

Justifying why she must be voted for the fourth time as assembly member for the Kasadjan electoral area, she said she was sponsoring students to attain higher level education in addition to arranging for loans for small scale businesses and women traders.

On the issue of disability, she said she always ensured that persons living with disability in her area received their fair share of the Disability Fund.

Madam Enoo disclosed that the men contesting always tried to intimidate her and called her ignorant whenever she expressed her opinion on issues

“Because I am outspoken and a woman, they say I don’t respect, and they always want to put me in a tight corner but I remain firm and fair and my yes is always yes”.
