Avoid actions and utterances that destroy nation unity – Odikro of Gomoa Amoana

Ghanaians have been urged to uphold the peace in the country by avoiding actions and utterances that can destroy the nation’s peace and unity.

“It is important for us to note that effective communication will enable us to express ourselves and respond in ways that are appropriate to our culture and situations.”

Nana Budu Quansah IV, Odikro of Gomoa Amoana in the Central Region said this when addressing the youth from the Gomoa Akyepim Traditional Area and residents in the Birim Central Municipality and Birim South District at Akim Oda.

He said “effective communication means that we will not only be able to express our opinions and desires, but also our needs and fears.”

The Odikro advised the youth to beware of war-mongers who incite them to violence and condemned the use of hate utterances in the country’s political discourse.

Nana Budu told the youth to exercise extreme caution, so as not to be indulged in electoral malpractices before, during and after the impending 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.

He said politics of insults and vindictive language by politicians have the potential of plunging the country into violent conflicts if the situation is not addressed.

He expressed dissatisfaction about the use of intemperate utterances with total abuse on the country’s political landscape, and advised chiefs, politicians, business executives and other commercial managers to put in place mechanisms to help limit the unsavoury use of language at workplaces and in society.**
