Since the days of Jesus Christ, when Mr. Iscariot betrayed the Son Of Man in return for 30 pieces of silver coins, humankind has lived with the business of betrayal after betrayal.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is today wobbling on broken knees to remain relevant in Ghana’s political equation, and the bobbing is getting murkier by the day.
As if Kennedy Agyepong’s recent barking and calling of his party chairman Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey a thief isn’t enough a headache, certain personalities are deepening the fight within the confused elephant colony.
Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has emerged on the scene in his quest to unseat comical Sir John as the General Secretary of the NPP; and his emergence stinks like the Korle Lagoon.
In his extreme arrogance and thoughtless haughtiness, Kwabena Agyepong, is really stepping on lots of toes.
The recent toe that is writhing under the arrogant betrayal of Kwabena Agyepong is that of incoherent Yaw Buabeng Asamoah.
Yaw Buabeng Asamoah aka YB, who is also seeking to become General Secretary of the NPP, is accusing Kwabena Agyepong of reneging on his (Kwabena’s) PLEDGE not to contest, but rather throw his support behind him (Buabeng Asamoah).
Buabeng Asamoah, who also talks a lot, but says nothing sensible, is thus now yelping all over the place, accusing Kwabena of being a ‘Judas Iscariot’.
“Kwabena Agyepong is a wicked traitor and backstabber,” YB is reported to have told some close associates two days ago at a meeting.
Seething with rage, YB is not hiding the fact that he and Kwabena Agyepong signed a pact; but Kwabena is now behaving like Brutus and stabbing Caesar in the back.
According to The Informer’s sources, YB is swearing never to forgive Kwabena Agyepong for being a betrayer.
“I swear that Kwabena will not know any rest in this party; I will do everything possible to pay him back for betraying me,” YB is reported to have blurted out.
On the part of Kwabena Agyepong, information reaching The Informer has it that he has no regrets for turning his back on his pledge to YB.
“As far as Kwabena is concerned, politics is a very dirty game and so there is no reason why YB should be crying like a lost baby and making a mountain out of molehill,” said this Paper’s source.
It is as clear as daylight that, as the battle lines become clearer in the NPP’s internal race for leadership positions, the “Walls of Jericho will come tumbling down”.
The fight is certainly going to get dirtier as Akufo-Addo and Alan Cash brace up for NPP-politics’ Super Heavyweight bout.
