Binduri citizens vow to resist any attempt to relocate the district capital

Some Concerned citizens of Binduri in the Upper East Region resident in Wa have publicly declared their intention to resist any attempt by anybody to take the district capital of the newly created Binduri District away from Binduri community.

They said the Legislative Instrument (L.I.) which created the District stated unambiguously that “the Assembly shall establish its principal offices at Binduri where meetings of the Assembly shall be held”, stressing that any attempt to disregard the L.I. could potentially breach the peace in that area.

The Binduri concern citizens in Wa stated their intension in a press statement issued and signed by four of their leaders including Mr. George Ndebugri, Mr. Edward Abugri, Mr. Daniel Musah and Mr. Ayamba Osman.

Binduri, which was formerly under Bawku Municipal Assembly, was one of the new districts that were recently created by the government.

The statement accused some elements from the Bazua area led by the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo and his Deputy Mrs Lucy Awuni of initiating attempts to illegally take the District capital to Bazua in disregard of the L.I. which named Binduri as the District capital.

The statement therefore called on the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and for that matter the Presidency to call to order all the people who are directly or indirectly seeking to contravene the L.I in order to prevent any violence in the newly created district.

The statement said they would use any means possible within the confines of the law to ensure that their rights and what was due them was not trampled upon with impunity.

It said the inauguration of the new district was scheduled to take place on 28th June, 2012 and if by then they still did not hear anything from government, they would head straight to the court to put an injunction on the inauguration from taking place in any other community except Binduri.**
