Mr. Bright Akwetey, an aspiring Convention People’s Party (CPP) Presidential candidate, has deplored the wanton sale of the nation’s assets to foreign businesses.

He said the sale and privatisation of these state assets symbolized the lost of sovereignty thus making the independence struggle meaningless.

The aspiring CPP presidential candidate expressed this sentiment when he met party members and delegates from ten constituencies of the Western Region in Takoradi over the weekend.

The meeting which was called to solicit for the support of the regional executives comes ahead of the CPP’s national congress slated for May 12, 2012 at Essipon in Sekondi.

Mr. Akwetey recounted the sale of Ghana Telecom, Ashanti Gold Fields and the liquidation of Ghana Airways among others and expressed the fear that the Akosmobo hydroelectric Dam may even be sold.

He noted that like the cockerel, full of empathy and understanding, CPP was the only party which could restore the lost heritage of the country.

The lawyer was of the view that the welfare of the people of Ghana was supreme to any other interest .

Mr. Akwetey said he would amend the Mineral and natural resources law which gave foreigners upper hand over the country in terms of revenue.

On the other hand, he urged CPP members to be proud of the Party since it was the only party that could give hope to Ghanaians.

Mr. Akwetey added that the CPP was being transformed and restructured to ensure that it captures power during the upcoming general elections adding, “We are building the CPP party structures for a better Ghana”.

Mr. Samuel Gordon Etroo, CPP regional chairman of the Western Region, said the time had come for members to stand firm and defend what CPP stood for.

He noted that the CPP was the only party which had a national agenda as against party agenda aimed at satisfying the needs of all Ghanaians.

Mr. Etroo urged party members not to allow themselves to be “bought” by other interest groups but rally behind the Party for victory in 2012.**
