The vehicle in which the outspoken and controversial NPP regional chairman was travelling together with his campaign coordinator, bodyguard and one of his aides reportedly somersaulted several times.
Mr Bugri Naabu was immediately rushed to the Damongo Hospital and later transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment after which he was discharged.
A source told DAILY GUIDE that the presidency wanted to fly Chairman Naabu to Accra for further checks but doctors gave assurance that they would handle the situation.
According to reports, Mr Naabu’s bodyguard and the driver of the vehicle, who sustained a neck injury, are in critical condition.
Chairman Bugri Naabu was returning to Tamale after a political campaign at Sawla and Bole to seek re-election in the primaries slated for the weekend.
A source at the Northern Regional NPP Secretariat told DAILY GUIDE that the party and the body in-charge of the regional elections had gone into an emergency meeting to decide whether the elections should come off or not.
The upcoming northern regional delegates’ conference, which was supposed to begin on Saturday, April 21, 2018, was postponed due to five outstanding constituency elections.
