Chief appeals to his people to vote district level elections

Sikaa (B/A), Sept 12, GNA - Nana Ameyaw Yeboah, Chief of Sikaa in Nkoranza District, has urged his people to attach importance to the district level elections and vote for competent candidates. Nana Ameyaw Yeboah, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, described the district assembly concept as laudable for a developing country because it had offered people the opportunity to take part in decision-making.

He told his people not to play politics with the elections but to vote for candidates who would be able to lead them to initiate development programmes.

"Those who would be ready to serve the community should be considered for positions and not those who will seek power and later turn to lord it over you", Nana Ameyaw Yeboah said. He expressed concern about the low standard of education in the area as some parents would not support and encourage their children to further their education.

Nana Ameyaw Yeboah announced plans to organize the people to set up an educational endowment fund to support brilliant but needy students. Citizens of the area would pay special contributions as well as fund raising rallies every Christmas.

Junior secondary school students who would obtain aggregates 6 to 15 would receive some support to further their education. He thanked the district assembly for providing the community with six bundles of roofing sheets in support of the local Presbyterian kindergarten project.

Nana Ameyaw Yeboah appealed to teachers in the area to redouble their efforts to help bring improvement in the standard of education. 12 Sept 06
