Compulsory tertiary education will soon come - Akufo-Addo assures
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged to make education compulsory from kindergarten to tertiary.
Addressing the Ghanaian community in China, the president gave an assurance he will put in all the needed resources to ensure a successful implementation of secondary education.
The president in his speech said he will not relent in his efforts in making education at the tertiary level compulsory.
“My hope is that soon, Parliament and myself will be in agreement that we should even bring legislation that will make it compulsory for every child in Ghana to go to school from kindergarten right up to university level.”
He revealed discussions on the legislative instrument was on going adding, “It is not yet concretized itself into specific legislation but the conversation on that is now part of our national discourse and it should be because I believe that is the right thing to do to make it a matter of legislation.”
“…and therefore, if you see children hanging around the streets who are not in school you know they are breaking the law and we can take action against their parents especially if we have made it possible for them to be able to go to school and we are going to do that.”
