Winneba, Oct 21, GNA - The Central Regional Chairman of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Mr Ekow Okropong Longdon, has expressed the need for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from politics of insults between them.

He said the situation did not augur well for the country's democratic dispensation.

Mr Longdon made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba after a closed door meeting he held with Effutu Constituency executives of the DFP on Tuesday. He said the youth of the parties concerned, some of whom would become future leaders of the country, had been brain-washed with monies to indulge in acts that could tarnished other peoples' image and disturb the peace prevailing in the country.

Touching on a recent press statement by a faction of NDC functionaries in which they castigated Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, flagbearer of the NPP, Mr Longdon said it was unfortunate that some people in return also attacked President John Evans Atta Mills. Mr Longdon said President Mills was not the one who prepared the press statement for the group in question who also commented on the accident of Nana Akuffo Addo's daughter.

"Ghanaians must realise that President Mills and his wife are not the people who released the said press statement and therefore did not deserve to be insulted," he added. He said the situation was uncalled for, adding that if anything at all the serial callers of the NPP should have directed their responses to those people who issued the press statement against their party's flagbearer. "Please, the insults are too much and should be stopped forthwith," he declared.

He stated that no matter what, President Mills remained the head of state of Ghana until the 2012 elections decided otherwise, and expressed the hope that Ghanaians would give him the due recognition and respect for other foreigners to also emulate.

On the naming of the said Golden Jubilee House, Mr Longdon indicated that in the interest of peace and national unity, the name Flag Staff House should be maintained. He said this would satisfy every one's interest, adding that with the politics of insults going on between NDC and NPP, Ghanaians should remember that the only alternative to the problem was the DFP. 21 Oct 10
