A youth group calling itself “Northern Friends of Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah” has commended Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah for his high sense of moral and political maturity by not meddling in the squabbles within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in recent times.
A statement issued in Wa on Monday and signed by Mr. Mohammed Sumaila, Secretary to the Group, praised Dr. Spio-Garbrah’s recent call on former President Jerry John Rawlings and President John Atta Mills to iron out their differences for a stronger and united NDC.
The statement explained that the two leaders needed to forge ahead together in unity for the party to retain power in the December 7 polls.
It therefore called on all other stakeholders to work towards uniting former President Rawlings and President Mills because the roles of both leaders were crucial and necessary in ensuring victory in the elections.
The group described Dr. Spio-Garbrah’s appeal for ceasefire among the various combatants in the two camps as a “God sent message” which would help bring hope to many millions in the lower ranks in the NDC, who were currently at a lost as to which direction to follow.
The statement urged other NDC stalwarts to emulate Dr. Spio-Garbrah unifying efforts and suggested to President Mills to assign him some roles to help unite the NDC to win the elections.
The group cautioned individual politicians to desist from acts and utterances that would destroy the fortunes of the party in the December polls.
The statement also appealed to Dr. Spio-Garbrah not to shun any invitation to him to play more leading roles in the NDC and in President Mills’ government.**
