The demand by the EC that Ghanaians seeking to register in the limited registration exercise must visit their district offices before they can be registered is unconstitutional and could potentially disenfranchise many, MP for Effutu Alexander Afenyo-Markin has argued.

The limited registration of voters which resumes today at district offices of the EC nationwide, will require any person seeking to have their details captured to visit EC offices.

Speaking to Starr News, the controversial lawmaker said the move is inappropriate and must be stopped.

“No law allows them to do that. If you look at the many people in various villages who because of this directive are unable to go to the center; what EC is saying is that if you don’t have money, you can’t come and register, by doing this they are disenfranchising Ghanaians who are qualified to vote and anybody can take them on to restore his or her rights.

"They shouldn’t make themselves vulnerable because Ghanaians are wide awake, Ghanaians know their rights and I will be at the fore front to assist any Ghanaian who wants his rights to be restored,” he said.
