There was a misunderstanding at Nsabaa Presbyterian Primary School Polling station in Pokrom -Nsaba in Akuapem South Constituency Sunday after an EC official denied an 85-year-old woman registration for refusing to take off her headscarf.

The applicant Janet Sarfoa was taken to the registration center at 4:00pm by her daughter -Atiemo Gladys. After going through various stages of the registration process, an official identified as Dorcas who is supposed to take picture of the applicant asked her to completely take off the headgear but the woman insisted she has loss hair hence cannot completely take off the headgear therefore but could ensure her face and ears are visible enough to be captured.

But according to the daughter of the octagenarian, the EC Official sacked the old woman from the registration center that she can’t complete her registration for failure to take off the headscarf

The situation caused brief altercation as the residents alleged some old women were denied registration on similar grounds while others forced to take off their entire headscarf.

But for this incident, the voters registration exercise had been smooth in the Pokrom Nsabaa community where three polling stations have been clustered . About 2000 qualified voters have so far been registered .

The Electoral Commission of Ghana is compiling new Voters’ Register across the country for the December 7,2020 general election despite controversies that characterized the initiation of the exercise.
