The largest opposition, National Democratic Congress(NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission(EC) of Ghana of deceiving the nation with their so-called acquisition of a new electoral management system.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the NDC, Anthony Nukpenu said the Commission couldn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the system they’ve acquired were new ones insisting that they were exposed on their lies in their pilot registration.

“We engaged them and asked them questions whether its the old BVrs or new ones, but frankly speaking, we have concluded that its the old system they’re working with. They have installed new laptops and cameras to make it appear these are new BVRs. The appearance on the web station doesn’t show it a new one.”

Meanwhile, he noted that their participation in the EC’s pilot registration was only to observe and apprise themselves with the system for limited registration and not the Election Management Body’s (EMB’s) much-touted new voter registration.

“We have not made a u-turn neither have we rushed to go and do any registration. We don’t even believe the EC can go ahead with this new voter registration because they are not prepared from all indications. For us, we’re only getting prepared for limited registration.

Pilot registration

The EC has begun the conduct of a two-day pilot registration exercise at all its regional offices to test the BVR kits, assess the protocols put in place, among other things.

Besides, it will later announce a date for a national pilot registration exercise at its head office in Accra.

Representatives of political parties are expected to be in attendance to observe the processes.
