Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed worry about the recent nine percent increase in petroleum prices.
According to Brogya Genfi, the decision taken by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in spite of the power crisis is “politically unwise”.
The fuel price increase has been met with angry reactions by Ghanaians, who describe it as unfair and a very insensitive move by government.
They argue that the increment in the wake of the worsening power crisis will cripple their businesses.
But Brogya Genfi on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, believes the increase is in the interest of Ghanaians.
He explained that though it was a very difficult decision taken by government, it is to guarantee availability of petroleum products in the country.
Conceding that the increase could affect the NDC's electoral fortunes ahead of the 2016 general elections, Brogya insist it was for the public good.
“This increase is politically unwise but economically wise because we don’t want a fuel shortage in the country” he added.
The NDC Ashanti region Youth Organizer appealed for calm as government works to find a lasting solution to the power crisis popularly known as dumsor.
Brogya Genfi said despite the difficulty faced in government, the NDC is still the only political party to take Ghana to the promise land.
