GHC700 allowance for NaBCO beneficiaries modest - Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has described the amount beneficiaries will receive under the National Builders Corps (NaBCO) as a modest amount.

The president further announced that volunteers who will apply under NABCO will become first NaBCO trainees by July 1st, 2018 and will be deployed for work by August 1st, 2018.

The Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO) programme is a government initiative to address graduate unemployment to solve social problems.

The focus of the initiative will be solving public service delivery in health, education, agriculture, technology, governance and drive revenue mobilization and collection.

Under the programme, graduates will be trained, equipped with the necessary work tools and deployed around the country to engage in the following programmes: Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Feed Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Digitize Ghana, Civic Ghana and Enterprise Ghana.

They will be entitled to a monthly allowance of GHc700 under a contract of three years. Launching NaBCO at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the president said, ‘’it’s a modest but important beginning.’’

Beneficiaries will receive continuous training and re-training on the job both to equip and guide their future career path, he added. He charged graduates to take advantage of NaBCO since it will help in reducing the rate of unemployment.

‘’To all our young graduates, who qualify to enter this scheme, NaBCO is yours, own it…Be proud to say I am a nation builder and this country will be,’’ proud of you ‘’for rising up to the challenge.’’

He told the gathering that, YEA will also recruit 18,000 non-graduates this year.



The objectives of the programme are to: Provide temporary employment to unemployed graduates; Improve skills and employability for transition from programme to permanent employment; Improve public service delivery; Improve on government revenue mobilization and To provide needed infrastructure to improve access to basic public services.
