The Ghana Health Service in the Ashanti Region with supports from its partners in their effort to eradicate Malaria will be distributing long-lasting insecticide treated nets for free in the Ashanti Region.
There will be a registration exercise which will see everyone registered before the actual distribution.
The registration will start from tomorrow 4th October to Monday 10th October.
Trained registrations assistants with identification tags will visit various houses to take information about the number of persons in the household, name of household heads, house numbers and telephone.
The registration assistant will then issue a card with a unique code. The card with the code shows that you have been registered to receive free long-lasting insecticide treated net.
The registration exercise is expected to last for seven days after that the distributions will take place.
The distribution exercise will also take place from 13th October to 19th of October. Only registered persons will be given the long lasting insecticide treated nets. Any household that refuses to register will not be given the nets.
Addressing the media at a gathering, Ashanti Regional Director at the Ghana Health Service Dr Emmanuel K Tinkorang called on the media to spread the information to the general public for people to take part in the exercise.
Dr. Tinkorang also urged the public to take part in the exercise and collaborate well with the registration assistant for the smoothness of the exercise. He also advised workers to stay at home during weekends to be able to get registered.
The director also revealed that as part of their efforts to eliminate the issues of measles in the country, the exercise will also take place between 17th and 22nd of October. Children from the ages of 9 months to 5years will be vaccinated during that time.
Nurses will go round at the various schools and houses to inject children to avoid the issue of measles in the country.
Parents are advised to make sure children who fall under the age have their wards injected to avoid future problems.
