The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Presidency of giving grounds to the unlawful seizure of perceived state assets by supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the establishment of Task Force.

According to the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia the Akufo Addo government must come up with an acceptable procedure to retrieve state asserts.

Government last week set up a task force with a sole mandate of retrieving state assets which are being held unlawfully by officials of the former government.

The team comprises officials from the Police Service, the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority(DVLA), the Bureau of National Investigations(BNI), and the office of the President.

In a statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare said various state assets including landed properties and vehicles are yet to be handed over to the new government, hence the setting up of the task force to retrieve all these assets in the interest of the state.

However, Johnson Asiedu Nketia in an interview with Joy FM stated that government has taken the wrong approach in handling the issue as the mode of operation by the Task Force is problematic.

“You go to write a letter to create the impression that you’re now going to justify the wrong things that have happened. They must come out to say that what has been going on is wrong, if they want to set up whatever Task Force to go and retrieve government property there are condition under which they should do so. We should know that yes indeed there’s a missing government property, this is the description and this is how we are going to go about it. And then if anybody is going about it, then that person is clearly identified…when those things are collected we know where they should be sent and put to what use.”
