Deputy Minister Designate for the Northern Region, Jabaah John Bennam has cleared the air on reports in his constituency that he had done a turn around and seized an ambulance he purchased for his constituents after failing to secure the Parliamentary seat after the elections.
Taking his turn at the Appointments Committee of Parliament chaired the by First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu, the former MP explained that he offered to get the ambulance repaired after he found out that it had broken down hence it’s retrieval and not what was being circulated.
After providing answers to various questions posed to him, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu asked Mr Bennam for explanations of his actions and further queried about the whereabouts of the ambulance.
He stressed that he had a personal interest in the matter as his ancestors originated from the constituency.
“Mr. Chairman, I gave them an ambulance, it got spoilt, I gave them money to repair it, they couldn’t do it, and then that was very close to the election. I went for it, bought some parts, they fixed it. At the end of it they realized that there were other spare parts that the ambulance needed and that was even in December (2016). So I pleaded with them to let me finish the elections. After the elections then I’ll fix it for them. Unfortunately I lost the elections.”
John Bennam narrated.
He further explained he went ahead to purchase two additional ambulances for the constituents although he lost the elections and assured the house that he would complete the repairs of the ambulance at the heart of controversy which he disclosed was parked in the residence of the National Chairman.
Mr. Jabaah John Bennam was the first of four nominees who were to make an appearance at the Appointments Committee of Parliament to prove their worth for the various positions they have been designated for.
The others were Deputy Minister-Designate for Western North Region Djornobuah Alex Tetteh, Deputy Minister-Dwesignate for Lands and Natural Resources Naana Eyiah and Deputy Minister-Designate for Health, Alexander Kodwo Abban.
