I regret campaigning for Wontumi – NPP MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang has said that he regrets campaigning for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

Kwadwo Baah Agyemang is of the view that Mr. Antwi Boasiako's conduct in the Ashanti region is making the party unpopular.

He accuses him (Antwi Boasiako) of sabotaging the efforts of incumbent MPs of the biggest opposition party in the region as well as demanding monies from them.

He said when these MPs refused to give in to his demands, he used the situation to ruin the ambitions of the MPs, the most recent being MP for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwaa.

Mr. Baah Agyemang further alleges that the party’s regional chairman who is affectionately known as Chairman Wontumi is trying hard to make the sitting Manhyia North MP unpopular to pave the way for him to impose his preferred candidate on polling station executives for the upcoming poll because he claims Mr Amankwaa refused to pay him.

“Chairman Wontumi is really subverting the works of MPs with his position and it is really making the party unpopular.

“He keeps demanding for money from us and I think it does not augur well for our party. I must say I regret campaigning for him and standing behind him even when he wanted to be in the position he is now,” he stated on an Accra-based radio station.

However, spokesman for Mr Antwi-Boasiako, Opoku Mensah, debunked the allegations saying they were simply meant to tarnish the image of the party’s chairman.

He said the allegations were borne out of hatred, as Chairman Wontumi had never made any demands on any parliamentary candidate.
