The PNC is this year presenting a more familiar face while the CPP is opting for a fresh one
The presidential elections performance of the PNC vrs CPP (head to head) since 1996.
In 1996, the PNC won 211,136 votes representing 2.95% of the total votes cast. The CPP on the other hand did not contest that election. The PNC was again led by Edward Mahama and won 189,659 votes (2.92%) as against George Hagan's CPP that won 115,641 representing 1.78% in the 2000 first round presidential elections.
However in 2004, Edward Mahama led the Grand Coalition to win 165,375 votes representing 1.92% whereas a new CPP candidate George Agudey won 85,968 votes representing 1.00% that year.
In 2008, the CPP under the leadership of Paa Kwesi Nduom won 113,494 votes representing 1.34% which had been the party's second highest and first time they had more presidential votes than the PNC since 1996.
The PNC then won 73,494 votes representing 0.87% under the same leadership of Edward Mahama.

In 2012, Hassan Ayariga become the flagbearer of the PNC and won 24,617 votes representing 0.22% whiles the CPP' new flag bearer Michael Abu Sakara won 20,323 votes (0.18%).
This year, the CPP will be led by a new flag bearer (Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet) whiles the PNC former flagbearer Edward Mahama will lead the party in a record 5 time attempt.
