Ignore Ras Mubarak, Vicky Hammah’s vote-buying claims – NDC guru
Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor, has asked Ghanaians to ignore claims of vote buying in last Saturday’s primaries by defeated parliamentary aspirants.
Mr Otokunor said statistics available to the party show that the election recorded a 98 percent success rate, thus rumours of irregularities and rigging are untrue.
“There is nothing like surprise in election. If you are going for election as a politician, sometimes you are able to anticipate win or lose. It’s better to sometimes know what the delegates also want in a candidate and so claims by these defeated candidates that there was vote buying are false.
“One cannot go for election without spending money. It’s a normal thing but it depends on how one sees it and so if you have failed to put things in order, how do you expect to win? Their allegation is not the true reflection on the ground and so it should be completely ignored,” he told Accra based Okay FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.
He said though the monetisation of politics is gradually becoming a hard bone to break, the peddling of misinformation on vote-buying will only create opportunity for opponents to attack the party.
