Former President Mr John Mahama has donated a set of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) to support the medical staff of the facility in the fight against COVID-19 in the country.

They included 100 full-grown PPEs, 100 gown boots, and 1000 pairs of surgical gloves valued at GHc40,000.00.

Dr Prosper Akanbong, a Member of the NDC’s COVID-19 Technical Team, who presented the PPEs on behalf of Mr Mahama to the authorities of TTH in Tamale on Thursday, said it was in line with Mr Mahama’s commitment to supporting national efforts at fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The country confirmed two cases of COVID-19 on March 12, and so far, the number of confirmed cases had risen to 313 with six deaths and three recoveries.

Dr Akanbong said the PPEs would offer full protection for the medical staff as they provided health care for the people in this period of COVID-19 pandemic.

He said so far Mr Mahama had presented PPEs to hospitals in the Greater Accra, Central, Bono and the Western Regions of the country.

Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila Abdulai, Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC gave assurance of the party’s commitment to continue to support the TTH to provide quality health care for the people.

Dr Kareem Mumuni, Acting Chief Executive Officer of TTH expressed gratitude to the Former President for the gesture, saying the PPEs had come at the opportune time when the TTH was providing care for some of the COVID-19 patients in the country.

In a related development, the Northern Regional Secretariat of the NDC donated quantities of hand sanitizer, liquid soap and tissue papers to caretakers of the Zujung Cemetery in Tamale to protect them as they helped in burying the dead.

The party also made a similar donation to some tricycle riders (Yellow Yellow riders) in Tamale to keep them and their passengers safe during this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Mohammed Abdul-Sallam, Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, who led some Regional Executives of the party to present the items to the beneficiaries on Thursday, said the party would make similar donations to market women amongst other identifiable groups in the region.
