Some Ghanaian journalists have lauded the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for its resolve to support its members acquire their own houses through the Media Village Project.

The GJA is embarking on the housing project in partnership with KOANS Building Solutions, a Real Estate company in Ghana to build 100 cluster of houses for its members at affordable prices.

The project, to be situated at Pampaso near Nsawam aims to help the Association resolve the accommodation challenges faced by most journalists due to inadequate salaries. Each of the 100 cluster of houses is expected to go for GH¢60,000 for two bedrooms without a hall and GH¢80,000 for two bedrooms with a hall.

With Ghana’s current housing deficit at 1.7 million units, and projected to climb to some 2 million by end of this year- 2018, the housing situation has become alarming with some calling for pragmatic collaboration between government and the private sector.

Speaking to www.ghanaweb.com after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Association and KOANS Estate as part of the GJA's flagship programme dubbed: "GJA Media Village Project" in Accra on Monday, 9 April 2018, the journalists described the initiative as a step in the right direction.

According to them, the new initiative by GJA is what the country needs to fill the deficit gap and, therefore, commended the GJA and KOANS Estate for showing interest in the welfare of journalists across the country.
