Sanitation minister, Kofi Adda has justified death threats against TV3/3FM journalist, Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah, accusing him of being bribed to run him down. An NPP activist, Hajia Boya called up Afreh-Nuamah on phone three weeks ago, asking him to desist from openly criticizing the Navrongo Central MP.

In the over three minute phone conversation, Hajia Boya threatened among others that, “If you dare criticize Kofi Adda again, I will teach you a bitter lesson. I will make sure you are bedridden. I will make sure you are crippled for life. Are you the one who appointed Kofi Adda? So why are you calling on president Akufo-Addo to sack him. You think you can sit on Facebook and write any nonsense at all eh? I will teach you a bitter lesson if you don't stop criticizing Kofi Adda. Do you think he is your class? Even Paul Afoko I dealt with him. You are like a small Lizard. I will deal with you squarely.”

The development has been condemned by many including the Media Foundation for West Africa (MWFA) which has called for swift investigations into the matter. The police is also looking into the issue.

Commenting on the situation for the very first time, on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show, Mr Adda said, “Nuamah should also be above board in doing his professional work and I have no reason now to believe otherwise that perhaps he is being paid by someone to do that against me….He has never said anything positive about what the ministry has done. He has never, for once investigated the ministry to see what we have done.”

When host, Winston Amoah asked him for proof, the minister indicated, “Let’s not look at the threats. Let’s look at what he should be doing as a responsible professional journalism. I have no reason to believe otherwise. I suspect. I said I suspect…Otherwise, I don’t see why he will not be objective and say the other side of the story.”

In the meantime, Ghanaweb has learnt that the police is yet to take any action on the threats against Afreh-Nuamah, even though the case was officially reported to the Nima police 3 weeks ago.
