Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu is calling for a more effective collaboration between the Communications Ministry and the Aviation Ministry to enable meteorological service stations to provide accurate information.
He was very critical of the poorly resourced meteorological service stations across the country especially in areas where accurate information is needed for aviation.
During the vetting of Aviation Minister-designate Cecilia Abena Dapaah on Wednesday, February 8, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South insisted on prioritising safety hence provision of funds for the building of service stations with adequate logistics.
He told the House: “We want a commitment that you (Ministers-designate for Aviation and Communication) will work together to review the legislation and ensure that you have a dedicated receipt of those charges shared with the Meteorological Service… I supervised the building of the only improved meteorological service station because they don’t have money, especially in Kumasi and Tamale – they can’t read even the dust level.”
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has appealed to government on several occasions to help resource their stations to carry out their duties effectively.
