The Kwabre West Constituency has described as unfortunate the attempt by the Deputy Minister of Information to link the death of Member of Parliament (MP) for the area to the rumours of the President’s demise.

It has therefore demanded an unqualified apology from Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Deputy Minister, to the bereaved family and the entire membership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A statement signed by Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Constituency chairman and issued in Kumasi, said the party is surprised that the Deputy Minister would make such “infantile mockery” of the memory of Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu Ansah, who had served the country diligently.

Mr. Ablakwa is alleged to have made statement in the media indicating that the death of the former Ashanti Regional Minister and MP for Kwabre West was caused by recent rumours peddled by some people that President Evans Atta Mills was dead.

He is also alleged to have said that “anytime they (NPP) say Professor Mills is dead, one of them dies”, but the party says such a statement is unbecoming of a young Deputy Minister and urged him to set a good example.

“We will urge the young Deputy Minister to set a good example for the youth of this country by comporting himself in a responsible manner and refrain from keeping insults on the memory of men like the late Owusu Ansah”.

The statement called on the President, the Council of State, all religious bodies and other well meaning organizations to condemn the irresponsible statement of the Deputy Minister of Information and other similar statements emanating from members of the NDC.**
