I will relinquish my seat if Okaikoi gets over 35% votes- Nii Lante Vanderpuye
The aspiring Member of Parliament for the ruling National Democratic Congress says he will readily relinquish the Odododiodoo seat if his closest contender, Victor Okaikoi of the New Patriotic Party gets more than 35 per cent of the total votes cast.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuye was speaking at a forum jointly organized by Centre for Democratic Development and the Coalition of Domestic Observers to promote peaceful co-existence among supporters of the various candidates in the constituency ahead of the 2012 elections.
Odododiodoo was notoriously violent during the biometric registration and there are fears there could be a repeat of the violent clashes in the December elections.
Public Relations Officer of the CDD, Theodore Dzeble told Joy News the forum was to conscientize the constituents that election is not about war but rather about peace and development.
It was also to afford prospective voters the opportunity to question their candidates about the immediate plans they have for the development of the constituency.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuye told the crowd he is convinced there will be no violence at all because he will win by a landslide.
“I have already told Capt Okaikoi that if he gets anything above 35 per cent of the votes, I will give the seat to him.
“So there won’t be the need for any violence. I am positive I will get more than 65 per cent of the votes,” he said.
Capt Okaikoi said he is committed to peace, assuring he would rather lose the seat than have a single drop of blood spilled.
