Madam Braimah Azumah Zenabu, Adentan Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has advised the youth to endeavour to study the 1992 Constitution to guide them against acts that could land them in trouble.
Madam Zenabu noted that if the electorate, especially the youth understand party manifestos and the tenets of the constitution they would not fall foul with the law.
The Municipal Director gave the advice at a peace and community games dubbed: “One Ghana Soccer” competition, organised by the Foundation for Youth Peace and Development in conjunction with the youth of Nii Ashale and other youth clubs in the Municipality.
The main aim of the annual peace games is to instill the spirit of oneness and tolerance among the youth.
Madam Zenabu stressed the need for the youth to be conscientised to stand up for the socio-economic development of the country instead of engaging in acts that are a disservice to the general development of their communities and their well-being.
She called on opinion leaders and other elders of the communities to assist in ensuring peace by advising the children from activities that can create mistrust, conflict and destruction of lives and property.
Mr Joseph Tetteh, Founder and Co-ordinator of the Foundation for Youth Peace and Development advised the youth to resolve to make a difference by directing their efforts and strength into useful ventures.
He said the youth have a greater responsibility to ensure that Ghana remain peaceful before during and after the general election since they form the active segment of the population and any negative situation could derail their upbringing.
Mr Tetteh said stability and peace are the only avenues in ensuring the socio-economic development of the country and so it behooves all, especially the youth to use their potential to lead the crusade for an incident-free general election as well as good governance.
Reverend Father Nimorious Kwabena Domanzing, Parish Priest of the St Francis of Assisi, Botwe who chaired the programme noted that the word peace connotes development and as such the people, especially the youth must guide their utterances and steer away from acts that might disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that the country is enjoying.**
