A massive turnout at a keep fit exercise attended by President John Dramani Mahama at the Asawase Constituency of the Ashanti Region over the weekend is generating controversy between the country’s two largest political parties, the NPP and NDC.

Mustapha Hamid a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team in the constituency, is alleging that the crowd that attended the event is not a true reflection of the actually situation on ground.

“They bused people from across the country to Asawase to take part in the keep fit and were also distributing money to people who are not even their members to join”, he alleged on Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra.

According to him, the conduct of the National Democratic Congress in the area is a panic reaction considering how poised the NPP is determined to snatch the seat from the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

“The NDC were distributing GH¢ 10, GH¢20 and more just to entice residents to join in their campaign”, he added.

But the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan said the crowd is a manifestation the NDC is on course to achieve its 1.5million votes target in the region.

“Kwame if you were in Asawase on Sunday, you will see that we are on course to achieve our target. We did not distribute money and bus people like they always do. How can we pay all these people who came around”, he asked.

According to him, the crowd was overwhelming and signally the NPP Asawase is a no go area for them.
