Sekondi, Dec. 16, GNA - Mr John Kofi Ahenkorah, Western Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday, called on the regional leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to restrain their party's supporters and members from harassing and intimidating NDC activists.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sekondi, he said there had been attacks on NDC's activists in some parts of the region, since the election.

Mr Ahenkorah cited the attack on the 77-year-old mother of Miss Betty Bosomtwi-Sam, NDC Parliamentary candidate for Sekondi by an NPP activist.

He said the NPP activist threw a stone at the old woman, hitting her on the forehead and resulting in a deep wound.

Mr Ahenkorah said the old woman was rushed to hospital, where the wound was stitched and the incident reported to the Police.

He said the incident created tension between the supporters of the two parties at Sekondi and had it not been for his timely intervention, the situation would have gotten out of hand.

Mr Ahenkorah urged the NPP to help ensure that peace prevail in Sekondi and other parts of the region. 16 Dec. 04
