Accra, Dec. 23, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the main opposition party on Thursday called on political leaders to inculcate in their members the spirit of tolerance for the seeds of democracy to bear fruits.
"We still have many challenges ahead of us as a people and it is only through a stable democracy that we can work together to overcome them," a Christmas message signed in Accra by Mr Bede Ziedeng, Acting General Secretary of the NDC said.
"It is the wish of the NDC that the celebration of Christmas and New Year will offer Ghanaians the tonic for true reconciliation in a dear country."
The NDC said as a people, Ghanaians should use the joy that comes with the celebrations to heal wounds and extend the hand of cooperation to one another and look forward to a better future.
"Since the essence of Christmas is to promote peace, love and unity, its observation in Ghana this year becomes significant given the acrimony and rancour that marked the just-held general elections in some parts of the country.
The message said: "As we celebrate the Yuletide, the NDC urges Christians to use the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ the redeemer, to pray for the social rejuvenation and spiritual revival of our dear nation, which appears to be overwhelmed with hordes of vices, but more particularly, for continued peace in the country."
The NDC appealed to its supporters to put the results behind them and rally behind the national leadership of the Party "so that together we can forge ahead as a united family with the determination to recapture power in the next elections".
