Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) Anthony Karbo says the accusation leveled against the NPP running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in relation to the ‘private verification’ claims is a desperate attempt by the NDC to dent the image of the NPP ahead of the general polls.

Karbo says it would be insane for anyone to pay a whopping sum of GHS 10,000 just to get himself verified on the voter roll when such exercise is free, insisting that such claims against Bawumia only shows a distressed NDC devising clueless strategies to retain power.

According to him, Bawumia got himself verified at the polling station although he was approached by the EC officials for them to assist him do it in his home.

“He indicated to them quiet clearly that well, I’ll still come to the centre to get myself verified, that remains his side of the story,” Karbo said.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 Network, Karbo said: “This is completely ludicrous and false ;NDC is looking for something to hold on and we are not going to waste our time on the matter. Why do you pay 10,000 to get your name checked in the register which every Ghanaian goes to do it for free? It is a desperate attempt to smear a man who is very poised for this elections.”

The Electoral Commission (EC) has sacked two of its officers in the Walewale constituency in the Northern Region for going against its regulations, the commission’s Deputy Communications Officer for the EC, Yussif Alhassan Ayuba, has stated.

Jobey Ambrose and Mumuni Latiffa, the officers in question, were alleged to have moved electoral materials from the Kperiga polling centre in the region to the residence of the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to get him verified in his home.
