Lawyer and aspiring flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elikplim Agbemava has accused former President John Dramani Mahama of being a bad leader, indicating how Ghanaians experienced bad governance and leadership under his tenure.

According to the lawyer, Mahama’s bad governance made the party lose the 2016 December general elections for which they are currently paying the price.

Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Editor, Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng on ’21 minutes with KKB,’ the NDC presidential hopeful said due to massive corruption and lack of regulation during Mahama’s time in office, Ghanaians lost hope and trust in them making them lose the election and fully agrees with JJ Rawlings’s statement that the NDC had issues of corruption and bad governance.

“I believe in whatever he (Rawlings) says and it is true that we had issues of corruption, bad governance. You know if you talk about corruption somebody might say that nobody has been taken to court and found guilty but we all know the price we are paying for bad governance. The lack of regulation.....I do admit there was bad governance when we were in power and that is why we were voted out,” he said.

Questioned if Mahama was a bad leader, the lawyer answered saying “in the estimation of the people of Ghana, he did not meet that expectation”.

The National Democratic Congress is at the crossroads as the party battles with which particular candidate they should field in the next elections.

Some of the current national executives are hell-bent on keeping faith with Mahama’s candidature.

Elikplim Agbemava is expected to compete with Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament; Alban Bagbin, former Trade Minister’ Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, former Vice Chancellor of UPSA; Prof. Joshua Alabi, former NHIA boss; Sylvester Mensah and former President; John Dramani Mahama.
