NPP defies court injunction to elect new executives

In spite of a 10-day injunction placed on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Volta Regional Delegates Conference by a High Court in Ho, the party went ahead to elect its regional executives on Saturday.

The former regional organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Makafui Kofi Woanyah, has been elected the new chairman of the party in the Volta region.

Kofi Boateng had claimed he was not treated fairly and resorted to the courts.

In the polls, Mr. Woanyah overcame competition from three other aspirants polling 296 out of the 497 votes at the St. Francis College of Education in Hohoe on Saturday.

A fourth aspirant for the position, Ken Anku, a lawyer, withdrew from the race due to the court injunction.

Joseph Homenya and Joseph Denteh, incumbents for the Regional Secretary and Treasurer positions respectively, were retained.

A former director of elections for the NPP 2016 campaign, Emmanuel Korsi Bodja secured the Regional Organizer position while Afia Agyagbo secured the women Organizer position.
