A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has told TV3 that 19 factories have been constructed and commissioned by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government so far.
John Ampontuah Kumah, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), said: “The 19th factory was commissioned last week”.
He made this known on the television station’s newspaper review programme on morning show New Day on Wednesday.
“It is not about noise-making,” Mr Kumah asserted.
But he stopped short of listing the factories that have been constructed when asked by host Bright Nana Amfoh, directing all who want to know to the Secretariat of ‘1D-1F’ for confirmation.
He said all the factories have workers in them and are operating.
Mr Kumah indicated that the government plans unveiling all the factories at the end of this year.
The NPP had promised setting up a factory in each district of the country in an ambitious promise in the run-up to the 2016 elections.
It was estimated that 216 would be set up in all but with the increase in municipal, metropolitan and district assemblies (MMDAs) to 254, 38 more factories are expected from government.
Sod was cut for the first of these factories at Ekumfi in the Central Region in August, last year.
Last month, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia told a 16-member delegation from India that the Asian country are “natural partners” in the implementation of the policy.
Already, China has doled out $2 billion for the implementation of the programme.
