As part of efforts to redeem the dangling fortunes of the New Patriotic Party in Atwima-Mponua constituency and his political future, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah met with the delegates on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2019 at Mpasetia, Ashanti Region.

This meeting had become necessary because rumors had it that a potential candidate has been identified in the constituency, both delegates and voters were urging the individual to contest Hon. Asiamah in the Atwima-Mponua Constituency.

Unusual as it were, Hon. Asiamah entered the meeting hall on a very low political profile, a profile depicting less than the status of a local Assembly man. He quietly went to sit on the podium.

More than half of the 900 delegates did not enter the meeting place at all. Two-man, three-man up to about ten-man meetings were seen all over the place.

When the time came for Hon. Asiamah to speak, he shouted “kukurudu” three times and to the shock of the press and everybody, nobody responded back.

“I am only 43 years, do you want to retire me?” he asked on bended knees. The delegates in and outside the meeting hall shouted on top of their voices “Yes go, we need change”.

Earlier, the District Chief Executive for the area, Hon. William Darko, was interrupted and brought abrupt by the angry delegates who were gathered in the meeting.

It was further gathered that there is a move within the constituency to select a comprise candidate for the NDC to enable voters to vote “skirt and blouse” as they call it, in the event that Hon. Asiamah is elected the NPP candidate for elections 2020.

Subsequently, information reaching us indicates that the Honorable Member of Parliament and Minister for Sports, Hon. Asiamah met with about 20 members of the delegates in a crisis meeting over the weekend in Accra, in his attempt to curve his political fortunes.

But rumors had it that the meeting informed him that he should not contest so to safeguard the constituency for the New Patriotic Party in 2020.

The party would do itself a great disservice if it fails to investigate this matter. More information is available but for the sake of not causing NPP a collateral damage, a decision has been taken in the constituency not to publish same.

Minister Assiamah is known as very powerful in government as he masterminded the sacking of his deputy Pius Enam Hadzide and is hoping to count on his influence as immunity in the upcoming primaries.
