NPP supporters angry over suspension of party’s 1st Vice Chairman

A group calling itself Coalition of Concern Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region took to the street to express their displeasure about what they described as unfounded, unjustified and baseless suspension of its first Vice Chairman, Mr Ekow Ewusi.

The group accused the Regional Chairman, Mr Robert Kutin Junior of hiding behind a faceless petitioner, Edward Okraku Adum to suspend Mr Ewusi whom he regarded as a threat to his chairmanship position in the next executive election.

They have thus, petitioned the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to investigate the matter and ensure the reinstatement of Mr Ewusi.

Mr Ekow Ewusi is said to have been suspended on Monday July 15, 2019 by the Regional Chairman after he refused to respond to a petition by one Edward Okraku Adum.

Mr Adum is said to have accused Mr Ewusi of engaging in criminal acts including drug peddling, escaping from prison in the UK, as well as illegally auctioning seized excavators from mining sites.

But addressing the media at a press briefing Mr. Franklin Ayivor, the Convenor of the group, said the supposed petitioner had since not been able to support his claims with any shred of evidence.

According to him, the mere refusal to respond to a supposed petition to the National Security did not warrant a suspension.

He said article 11 clause four and five of the Party’s constitution clearly spelt out the procedures for removing an elected member and therefore the Regional Chairman’s decision to suspend his immediate first vice was inappropriate and lacked merit.

He said they would leave no stone unturned in their quest to seek justice for Mr Ewusi, while calling on him to continue to play his crucial role to ensure victory in 2020 for the NPP.
