Hohoe, July 2, GNA-Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, a Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday said that politics was the only magic wand to transform drastically the development fortunes of the Volta Region into economic stardom.

"If a rapid development of the region was to be envisaged, then it should be tied against politics for socio-economic development," he stressed.

Dr. Apraku was addressing the fundraising lunch of the Hohoe-North Constituency of the NPP, which yielded over 20,000 Ghana Cedis (200,000,000 cedis) under the theme, "Mobilizing Resources for Agenda 2008".

He said the new confidence and enthusiasm of the party in the region would bring in its wake positive desires but was quick to ask party supporters to remain united and shun tendencies that would sow discord and acrimony.

Dr. Apraku pledged his commitment towards having a good working relationship with the region when elected.

Mr. Raymond Okudzeto, National Patron of NPP said a new culture towards fundraising was emerging in the region, which was a positive sign that the people were poised for an accelerated development, which could only manifest through the toil of the indigenes. He blamed the region's plight on lack of advertisement on the endowments and potentials of the region to the outside world and called on all to change their mindsets towards hardwork.

Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu, Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP said though history was lost in the Hohoe North constituency as a stronghold of the party, government continued to demonstrate faith in the area by undertaking development projects irrespective of this predicament. He said the Constituency was among the three-top seats within grasp by the NPP and exhorted party stalwarts in the area to present a common front in order to unleash political venom to send their opponents into oblivion.

Mr. Nuworsu pledged the Party's unflinching support to the Constituency in all aspects saying such fundraising events were self-help initiatives.

Dr Patrick Agbesinyale, Chairman of the Constituency Finance Committee said NPP would not relinquish political power now, and, that should change the way politics was done in the region stressing that, "donations would go a long way to prove a point, come 2008". Mr. Abdallah Mohamed Sadiq, Hohoe North Constituency Chairman said a target of 50,000 Ghana Cedis has been earmarked as one of the strategies to re-engineer plans to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress, which had won the Parliamentary seat since 1992.
