The National Union of Ghana Students on May 22 paid a working visit to Asanteman SHS and Ejisuman SHS in the Ashanti Region to acquaint itself with the conditions under which students are pursuing academic work and also to learn about the needs and experiences of students sitting in the ongoing WASSCE.

NUGS delegation led by the Press Secretary Kobby Otchere, Financial Secretary Eric Asante and Project and Programs Officer Eric Osei Akoto, interacted with teachers and students of both schools about the effects of the double track system.

According to the students and teachers of both schools, they are happy the system is in place as its making academic easier for them.

The teachers however, expressed their displeasure with the delay in the delivery of government provided textbooks stating that the students are unable to comprehensively understand material delivered by them.

Final year students writing WASSCE showed optimism and expressed their satisfaction with the progress made so far.

NUGS further encouraged the students to be zealous in their studies and called on the teachers to rededicate themselves to the task of educating the students and to be positive role models.

Candidates of WASSCE were advised to be thorough in studies as well as in answering examination questions. They were sensitised on the need to be incorruptible and steadfast and to not be tempted to cheat under any circumstances.

NUGS pledged to advocate for the expedited delivery of government provided textbooks and used the medium to call on all relevant stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, to resolve this challenge speedily.

NUGS maintained that they will remain committed to advocating and safeguarding the interests of Ghanaian students.
