Mr Dennis Amfo Sefah, the Tema West Chairman of New Patriotic Party has implored President Nana Akufo-Addo to forgive Mr Koku Anyidoho, the Deputy General Secretary of National Democratic Congress (NDC) over his alleged coup rants.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Amfo Sefah, who is popularly known as Nana Boakye said the NDC Deputy Scribe had been cut to size already and did not need the President to soil his impeccable reputation to pursue further punitive action against him.

“His Excellency has a fierce reputation as a human rights champion and I dare say that reputation overlaps with his humanity as well. Koku Anyidoho will deserve to be dealt with severely, but to what end? Nana as President is not only our leader but also our father, and when a child misbehaves, a father does not throw him away, he spanks him. I believe Koku has been spanked well” Nana Boakye said.

Even more consequentially, he said, a further punishment of Koku Anyidoho would create the opportunity for the opposition NDC to foment trouble and cast bad shadow upon the reputation and regime of President Akufo-Addo.

Mr Anyidoho had presented a treasonable outburst as an impending repetition of the overthrow of the Second Republic in which President Akufo-Addo’s father, Edward Akufo-Addo, served as President.

The outburst, which had been seen as vulgar and unsavoury had since been condemned by many including; even members of Mr Anyidoho’s own party, the NDC and also incurred him an arrest and brief detention by the Police on possible treason charges.

It is not clear if the state has the intent of pursuing treason charges against Mr Anyidoho, but the Tema West NPP Chairman thinks that President Akufo-Addo should let the matter go.

“Already, the NDC has claimed that the arrest and detention of Koku Anyidoho was an attack on free speech. Even so, it is said that the first casualty of war is usually the truth. And the truth is that President Akufo-Addo is not a vindictive leader of a brutal regime. I will therefore plead that he forgives Koku Anyidoho.” Nana Boakye said.
