The Ghana Police Service has debunked claims that two of its officers have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of an assemblyman in the South Tongu District.

Marcus Mawutor Adzahli, the assembly member for the Sogakope South Electoral Area in the Volta Region was shot and killed by unknown assailants after they raided his house about a week ago.

Media reports, however, suggested on Sunday, March 8 that two policemen were being investigated over the matter.

The report further said that the two officers were picked up based on alleged information that they rented guns to the suspected armed robbers who broke into assemblyman’s residence last week Sunday to murder him in cold blood.

In an interview with Dailymailgh.com, however, the Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Corporal Prince Dogbatse dispelled the claims.

Although he confirmed the two officers were being investigated, their offence has no link with the murder of the assemblyman.

“…Two Policemen have been arrested for the disappearance of a service rifle. Not in anyway linked to the killing of the assemblyman”, the Police Spokesman told Dailymailgh.com adding: “The incident is under investigation, absolutely no link”.

Though he could not confirm whether an arrest has been made in connection with the murder, he was quick to add that an official statement on the matter will soon be made public.
