Outspoken Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Hon Isaac Adongo has reminded the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration that the pact it had with persons of the north was to construct dams to improve livelihoods and not death traps.

He observed that the projects being executed by amateur contractors have turned into death traps claiming the lives of residents in variance with the promise they were intended to serve as sources of irrigation and water for animals.

Mourning with the bereaved families of three children who got drowned in one of the project sites last week, the lawmaker blamed their death to the negligence of the contractor who without recourse to the safety of residents failed to erect warning signs as being the norm.

“When you get to the project site you will see that there are no warning sites, no indication of who the supervising contractor is and worse of is the fact there is shoddy work. This is definitely not what we were promised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his NPP government”, he lambasted.

The MP accused the current administration of being insensitive to the plight of the bereaved family as no single individual in government visited to console with them and even inspect the project site to see how the work has been done.

“You can see for yourselves that the manhole they called a dam has broken its banks after two downpours and water sipping under because they did not use the required soil for the compacting”, he revealed.

Three children aged 9, 10 and 11 identified as Ayinsone Ayine, Dominic Akurugo and Raphael Aduko respectively, got drowned last week when they went to the dam to swim.
