President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday swore into office the last set of ministers for the newly-created regions.

They are Kwasi Owusu Yeboah for the Oti Region and Mrs Ama Kumi Richardson for the Bono Region.

At a short ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra, where the President handed them with their ministerial instruments, he congratulated the two for their appointments.

He told them that they had been carefully chosen because they had proven their mettle in public service and were adequately prepared for their pioneering role in the governance of the country.

President Akufo-Addo reminded them of the enormity of the mantle placed on them to bring government close to the people, and "I am very confident that you would discharge your duties creditably."

To the Oti Regional Minister, the President said he should make himself available and accessible to the people to prove the whole purpose of the exercise of creation of the Region to bring governance closer to the people.

He told the Minister that as a pioneer Minister of a new region, "you have a great deal of work to do to establish a foundation for strong regional administration."

The President also urged the Bono Minister, whose ministerial appointed generated controversy during her vetting in Parliament, to put the episode behind her and work hard to shame those who opposed her nomination.

The choice of Mrs Richardson who until her nomination was the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sunyani, was questioned by the Appointments Committee of Parliament over her educational credentials and some foreign travels she had undertaken as an MCE.

Parliament last week, approved her nomination through a secret vote, with the nominee pulling 124 votes of the 210 votes cast.

"You have a strong vote of approval, stand on that and work to shame those who opposed your appointment.

"Work hard to justify the confidence reposed in you," President Akufo-Addo told Mrs Richardson.

The President said he looked forward to working with the Ministers to fulfil the mandate the people of Ghana gave to his Government.

Mr Yeboah expressed appreciation to the President for their appointments and for the confidence reposed in them and assured that they would work to enable him fulfil his vision for the country.
