Acting Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay is appealing for calm for the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra was ransacked and vandalised Monday dawn.
According to him, the party has begun an internal investigation to expose those seeking their downfall ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Police in Accra have arrested eleven people in connection with a dawn raid and have cordoned off the building, only allowing party executives to enter the headquarters.
It is not clear exactly what was taken by the attackers who locked up the security officers at the party. Mr. Blay, however, suspects foul play.
He revealed at a news conference in Accra that one of the supposed military men who broke into the offices has been identified by one of the NPP security men.
Mr. Blay indicated that the NPP as a peace loving party would not engage in any criminality just to win power.
“We want to stay quiet now till the police finish their investigations, but those who don’t want us to have peace will be exposed” he stressed.
Freddie Blay called on party members not to panic but stay focused to ensure a landslide victory in the 2016 general elections.
