The Electoral Commission of Ghana has officially declared Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate, as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Dome/Kwabenya constituency.
Making the official declaration at a press conference on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) stated that it has completed the collation process for the disputed Dome/Kwabenya constituency, thereby canceling the planned re-run at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station.
Speaking to the press, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, explained that the decision to conduct the re-run had been due to a missing pink sheet for the outstanding polling station, which neither the NDC nor the NPP possessed.
In summary, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu of the National Demcractic Congress (NDC) garnered 50,967 votes, narrowly surpassing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr., who received 50,669 votes.
