Techiman (B/A) Feb. 27, GNA - Noah Owusu, chairman of Techiman-North constituency branch of New Patriotic Party is helping the police in investigations into the brutal manhandling of a 110-year old woman on the allegation that she was a witch.

Owusu, also proprietor of Royal Gold Computer and Secretarial School at Wiaso in the Municipality is alleged to have committed the offence with some of his students. They allegedly stripped Madam Yaaya-Dam Libaar naked, beat her up and accused her of being a witch.

The woman fell into a coma and had to be rushed to the Holy Family Hospital where she regained consciousness after some time. A grandson, Joe Libaar who went to the rescue of her grandmother was also not spared by the students and sustained injuries on several parts of his body.

Mr. Paul Makyuan, an environmental health officer and a son of the victim said he brought the mother from Bunkpurugu in the Northern Region to stay with him at Wiaso and they had been living there since November last year.

Mr. Makyuan said due to her old age Madam Libaar had been advised to undertake a walking exercise every morning and she had been doing that regularly for a few yards away from the home. He said on February 19 this year the women as usual went out around 0600 hours to undertake the regimen but when they realized that she had unusually kept long they decided to locate her.

They met her stripped naked and surrounded by the students in the presence of Owusu, who was subjecting her to maltreatment, claiming that

they had caught a witch and were offering prayers for her. Mr. Makuan said they managed to rescue the old woman and rushed her to the hospital.

Chief Inspector Sampson Y. Jebuni of Techiman police charge office has confirmed the incident.
