A V8 vehicle purported to belong to the National Security is under investigations by the Police in Kibi in the Eastern Region for whisking away a murder suspect from Police custody.

The unknown occupants of the Vehicle (Number Withheld) alleged to be operatives of National Security reportedly pulled the suspect Richard Owusu Afriyie into their waiting vehicle and drove off amidst warning shots.

Police pursued the vehicle having sent a wireless message about the incident upon which armed Police Officers laid ambush on the Suhum road but the “operatives” managed to abscond with the suspect.

But the suspect was arrested a year later when he returned to Kibi having gone into hiding.

This was revealed by Dickson Donkor, Assistant State Attorney during his argument against bail application filed by the accused under the Justice for All Program held in Koforidua Prisons on Friday.

The Prosecutor said, pictures of the said vehicle were taken and being tracked but the challenge he said has been the fact that the vehicle registration number seems to have been changed but said nonetheless trial is scheduled to commence.

Justice Clement Honyenugah thus refused bail the application for the suspect.

Richard Owusu Afriyie, 35, was first arrested by Kibi Police on April 30, 2017, after assaulting his tenant to death over electricity bill but was reportedly aided to escape by alleged operatives of National Security but was rearrested when he sneaked into Kibi to visit family and has since been remanded into Prison custody without trial.
